🍂 The final week of November 🍂 Ahoy there Year 1 pirates who secured the class treat they had been working towards. Hard work pays off and these little shipmates certainly earned a Friday full of pirate fun 🏴☠️ Year 3 had a wonderful cultural visit to Hastings Contemporary where they are starting their ‘Pearls of the Sea’ project. This is a unique opportunity to work with local artists and create work that will be exhibited in The Contemporary for the public to view. In collaboration with the White Rock Theatre, the children will also have the opportunity to bring some of their work to life on stage. We cannot wait to see how this fabulous project unfolds 🎨 🎭 Art across the school is in full flow and I’ve already seen some wonderful pieces being produced, showcasing the creative talents of our pupils. The arts are the perfect way to express yourself and they provide a wonderful escape for so many children 💙 Tomorrow is the first day of December and the school is already starting to feel very festive. However, I think we may have some unexpected visitors in classrooms tomorrow. We need the children to keep a look out and report any funny business straight away! 🙈 Happy Sunday everyone ☀️

The flurry of snow this week caused much excitement! Not enough to build a snowman but enough to extend our opportunities for learning and fun ❄️ ☃️ The children love being outside and this was exemplified in more visits to The Seven Sisters Country Park for Years 4 & 5. Being outdoors and surrounded by nature is so good for the soul 🍁 🍂 In PE, the children (and staff!) were testing out their reactions times and enjoying the challenge of trying to improve their times or be quicker than their friends. 🏃🏼♀️🚥 🏃🏽♂️ We were incredibly lucky to host a visit from the acclaimed children's author, Saviour Pirotta! Mr. Pirotta, whose many books are inspired by the wonders of ancient civilisations, spent time with some of our pupils sharing tales that were as engaging as they were educational. 📕 🖊️ Another great week flashes by as we head into the final week of November. Happy weekend all 💙

This week, we were incredibly lucky to host a visit from the acclaimed children's author, Saviour Pirotta! Mr. Pirotta, whose many books are inspired by the wonders of ancient civilisations, spent time with the children sharing tales that were as engaging as they were educational. He started by giving us a fascinating glimpse into his own life story. The children were on the edge of their seats as he spoke about how his ancestors were pirates and recounted his memories of being raised in Malta. He explained his journey to England to pursue his dream of becoming a writer and shared his genuine and heart-warming love of cats. Perhaps the most valuable lesson he shared was about his process of writing. Mr. Pirotta explained how, when his characters face a big problem in a story, they often have to try up to three different solutions to overcome it. This wonderful insight showed our young writers that perseverance and revision are key to great storytelling. The children were completely captivated by his interesting anecdotes and warm, engaging personality, making it a truly memorable session for everyone involved! 💙 Miss Sheldrake - Reading Lead 📕

Our School’s Safety Squad work alongside Mrs Foster, Deputy Safeguarding Lead, to help keep everyone safe. This week the squad were joined by our local PCSOs Tom and Louise to deliver an assembly on road safety. We discussed ways of keeping safe when out and about, knowing exactly how to cross roads. Thank you Tom, Louise & our Safety Squad 🙌🏼

It has been a meaningful and busy week in school. Our children showed great maturity as they reflected on Remembrance Day, and their kindness shone through as we raised money for Children in Need with a brilliant cake sale and a lively non-uniform day. Year 5 had a fantastic visit to the Seven Sisters, exploring the coastline and bringing their learning to life. Back at school, some pupils enjoyed tasting vegetables from our own garden, proudly sampling produce they helped to grow. Thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm and support—what a wonderful week it’s been ♥️💛

🌟 A fabulous start to Term 2 - Week 1 🌟 👏🏻 The children have returned to school after the break, settling seamlessly and showing their positive attitudes coupled with an excellent work ethic. We are really impressed. 🎭 The week started with a wonderful cultural visit to Glyndebourne for our Year 5 pupils. They were treated to an opera performance of the much-loved children’s classic, The Railway Children. 🏃🏽♂️ Our determined and resilient runners across years 4, 5 & 6 took on the inter-school cross-country race at Sandown Primary. This challenging course, under race conditions, is not for the faint hearted. We are exceptionally proud of everyone that took part and represented the school superbly. 🎖️ We finished the week by announcing our newly appointed pupil leadership roles in ‘Be Your Best’ assembly. These are prestigious roles with special responsibilities for leading crucial areas of our school. We look forward to introducing our new leaders to you this week. We know they will have a positive impact on the running of our school and help voice the views of all our pupils. 🌹A reminder that on Tuesday 11 November, we will be reflecting on Remembrance Day. Children who are members of groups like cubs, brownies, scouts, etc are invited to wear their uniforms as a mark of respect. 🐻 It’s Children in Need day on Friday 14 November and we will be fundraising with non-school uniform and a cake sale. Another exciting week ahead 💙

What an action-packed week! 🙌🏼💙 🌳 Year 6 had an incredible 3-day residential at Hindleap Warren in the beautiful Ashdown Forest — fully funded by The Fonthill Foundation. They explored nature, built resilience, and made amazing memories. 🚒 Early Years enjoyed a visit from our local Fire Brigade, learning all about fire safety and exploring the fire engine. Huge thanks to our brilliant firefighters for all they do. 🎭 Years 4 & 5 were wowed by an immersive Dens and Signals theatre experience — a mix of storytelling, music, sound, and movement that brought “Deep Time” to life. 🌊 Year 3 explored Rye Harbour, discovering local wildlife and habitats along the coast whilst experimenting with a range of art forms. 🌍 To finish the week, we welcomed our new friendship link teacher, Mr. Anthony Conteh, all the way from Sierra Leone 🇸🇱. We’re so excited to have him join our school community. 🎃 Next week, we are hosting our Boo Basket Bonanza. Every day in school earns a ticket that will be entered in the draw for our wonderful boo baskets. You’ve got to be in it, to win it! 🏃Happy weekend all & good luck to our OVPA staff who are running Hastings Half Marathon this morning!

The reading gap Approx one in four pupils move to secondary school without having met the expected standard in the key stage 2 national reading test. This holds many of them back in secondary school, both in their English lessons and more widely across the curriculum. /1— Mary Myatt (@MaryMyatt) August 5, 2025
