What an action-packed week! 🙌🏼💙 🌳 Year 6 had an incredible 3-day residential at Hindleap Warren in the beautiful Ashdown Forest — fully funded by The Fonthill Foundation. They explored nature, built resilience, and made amazing memories. 🚒 Early Years enjoyed a visit from our local Fire Brigade, learning all about fire safety and exploring the fire engine. Huge thanks to our brilliant firefighters for all they do. 🎭 Years 4 & 5 were wowed by an immersive Dens and Signals theatre experience — a mix of storytelling, music, sound, and movement that brought “Deep Time” to life. 🌊 Year 3 explored Rye Harbour, discovering local wildlife and habitats along the coast whilst experimenting with a range of art forms. 🌍 To finish the week, we welcomed our new friendship link teacher, Mr. Anthony Conteh, all the way from Sierra Leone 🇸🇱. We’re so excited to have him join our school community. 🎃 Next week, we are hosting our Boo Basket Bonanza. Every day in school earns a ticket that will be entered in the draw for our wonderful boo baskets. You’ve got to be in it, to win it! 🏃Happy weekend all & good luck to our OVPA staff who are running Hastings Half Marathon this morning!

This year OVPA are proudly supporting Baby Basics Hastings & Rother as our chosen charity thjs Harvest Time. We have been talking with the children about the value of supporting others in need linked to our school value of ‘Empathy’ 🩷 Members of our community have been donating items for newborn babies and their Mums so that they have all the essentials they need 👶🏼 It is wonderful to feel that we can make such a difference with a little of our help.

There were some very cheeky rule-breakers yesterday sporting their own clothes, crazy hair, make-up and tattoos! ☠️ 💄They had even brought in their own toys and unhealthy snacks… 🙈 Good job it was for a great cause! 🙌🏼😂 Break the Rules day provided a fun end to the week whilst raising money for our friendship link with Sierra Leone. 🇸🇱💚🇸🇱 Next Friday, Mr Anthony Conteh, a teacher from St Mulumba in Hastings, Sierra Leone is coming to the UK. He will be hosted by OVPA, spending time talking to our staff and pupils so he can learn what education is like in England. We are really looking forward to meeting Anthony and welcoming him to our lovely school 🇬🇧💙 🇬🇧 Thank you so much, everyone, for all your fundraising efforts yesterday….but remember the rules are back to normal next week! 😛

Another week whizzes by full of fun and opportunity 🎉 🙌🏼 We are really enjoying seeing the children take on new roles, responsibilities and challenges in their new year groups. We have shared the leadership roles that are available to the children and how they can apply for positions. Sign-up sheets and applications will be available this week in classrooms. Already, some of our classes have earned treats for their whole-class efforts. This week Shark Class were awarded a non-uniform day and could bring a toy to school which they enjoyed. A number of children have hit their 15 day attendance streak, earning prizes and vouchers which is great to see. We’ve been working so hard on all our rules and routines that next Friday, the children are allowed some flexibility with ‘Break the Rules’ day as we fundraise for Sierra Leone. OVPA Team 💙

The first full week of Term 1 was a huge success, and all the staff have been incredibly impressed with the pupils across the school. From our youngest children in nursery and reception to our eldest children in Year 6, they’ve all been amazing. We are so proud of them all! 🌟 This week, PE started, and everyone got active. We are incredibly lucky to have expert teaching from Wayne & Michala at Active Primary Sports and trained dance teachers Beth & Naomi from Funk Fusion Fitness. This gives our pupils excellent sporting skills and opportunities. 🏃🏽♂️ 💃🏻 🤸🏼♂️ 🕺🏻 We’ve also installed some new equipment for our younger pupils to develop and challenge their gross-motor skills. It was wonderful to see them using it when the weather allowed us to get outside. In our ‘Be Your Best’ assembly on Friday, class teachers always highlight children who have been excellent examples of our school CARE values: Co-operation, Achievement, Respect, and Empathy. We awarded some beautiful values certificates for those children to take home as a reminder of how proud we are of them. Well done to all those children who received certificates this week! There was plenty of ‘spin the wheel’ in assembly as classes were awarded treats for best attendance and tidiest classrooms. The golden broom award is always a favourite in Friday’s assembly, and the louder cheer when it’s received is always impressive. 🧹 🌟 Well done to Penguin Class and Shark Class for winning the golden broom awards, and to Turtle Class and Shark Class, again, for the highest attendance 🙌🏼 It’s been a truly fabulous first full week! Well done everyone! 💙

The start of a new school year is always exciting as we settle in to our new learning environments and welcome new experiences 🤩 It’s been a delight to see the children back in school, adjusting to their new routines beautifully. We’ve had a wonderful first two days and have welcomed lots of new pupils and their families 👋🏼 I spoke to the children about having high expectations of themselves and using the amazing opportunities and experiences they are given, to enrich their lives. Let’s hope every child at OVPA reaches for the stars and fulfils their ambitions 💫 ♥️ With the right mindset, they really can do anything they want to! 🌟🙌🏼 Have a lovely weekend everyone and we look forward to seeing you on Monday for a full week. The reading gap Approx one in four pupils move to secondary school without having met the expected standard in the key stage 2 national reading test. This holds many of them back in secondary school, both in their English lessons and more widely across the curriculum. /1— Mary Myatt (@MaryMyatt) August 5, 2025

Great start to the year, with our local schools, for our Alliance Inset day at Bannatynes. @ModernCassie got us thinking about aligning our roles to champion SEND success & adaptive teaching.
