It’s been a week of cultural and sporting achievements for OVPA with plenty of celebration 🎉 🏃🏽♂️ 🏃🏼♀️ Our athletics squad performed tremendously in Town Sports where they competed against other schools in a range of track and field events, securing some amazing outcomes! 8 Gold medals 🥇 9 silver medals 🥈 15 bronze medals 🥉 4th place in the league 🎖️ Not only were they praised for their sporting ability but for the way they cooperated, supported and encouraged each other. 🙌🏼 ♟️ ♟️ Huge congratulations to our county chess team, who won two trophies after an intense competition at Ardingly College. The chess team have been working hard on their game play and strategic thinking, practising during their lunchtimes. The hard work has paid off and they were truly rewarded for their efforts. 🎥 🎭 A great round of applause to our budding filmmakers, who were nominated for ‘Best Film’ at the Children’s Internetional Film Festival. Following weeks of preparation and filming, the talented efforts of our pupils were recognised in a well deserved nomination. Our budding stars got to watch the announcement of the nominees and presentation of the awards at The White Rock theatre this week. What an amazing experience and achievement! We are incredibly proud of all the wonderful opportunities our pupils have, allowing them to share their talents and shine ✨ 🩵

Week 2! 🙌🏼💙 This week our Year 1 pupils visited The White Rock Theatre to see The Lady in a Vinegar Bottle, a classic British folktale. The opportunity to see this wonderful musical performance was commissioned by Create Music and the children thoroughly enjoyed it. Year 4 and 5 are loving their weekly swimming lessons at Rye Freedom Leisure. They will be gaining confidence and learning new skills in the water over the duration of their sessions. Our swimming offer this year has enabled all children in years 3 - 6 to have lessons which is so essential for us, living by the sea. 🌊 Year 6 have started reading through their end of year performance which is very exciting. There is a real buzz around the school as they discuss the parts they are auditioning for, the scripts, songs and dances. We can’t wait to watch them perform! 🎭 It’s been a wonderful sunny weekend. Let’s hope the sun continues to shine, especially for our sports days which start in a few weeks ☀️ Happy Sunday everyone 💙

Our Year 4 pupils visited the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne where they were treated to a performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. 🎶 🎵 This was an incredible, cultural experience which the children really enjoyed. To top it off, everyone represented our school beautifully and staff were exceptionally proud of them all ☺️ Thanks to Mr Newell for organising this wonderful opportunity 👏🏻

We have had a great first week of Term 6 and as always, it’s such a pleasure to see the children after a break. Our chess team welcomed Sandown Primary School and The Baird Academy for some friendly games which were great to host. It’s wonderful to share our love of chess with local schools. Pupils in Years 4 and 5 started their weekly swimming lessons at Rye Freedom Leisure which was a hit. By the end of term, all our children from years 3 - 6 will have taken part in swimming lessons this year. Living by the sea, and with the recent water tragedies recently, learning to swim is essential. We have been sharing water safety updates with the children as they start to spend more time at the beach in the better weather. This term, everyone is being a Geographer as we focus on our local environment. The term is packed with opportunities to learn what’s on our doorstep and venture out for first hand experience. We have many exciting things coming up and lots to look forward to. A great start everyone - well done! 👏🏻💙

As we conclude the penultimate week of term, the BIGGEST shout-out has to go to our Year 6 crew 📣 💥 Their positive attitude, determination and resilience towards their SATs this week, has been incredible. We could not ask for any more from our pupils - they gave it their all 🙌🏼 They were superbly prepared and as a result, the tests didn’t phase them. They worked methodically through the papers, using the given time carefully and calling on everything they had learned in their lessons. Thank you to our fantastic Year 6 staff team for being wonderful advocates for our children and supporting them to do their very best ♥️ We are so PROUD of you all 👏🏻 ☺️ Happy last week of term everyone and we look forward to seeing you for Open Learning afternoon on Friday where we can share all that we have achieved in Term 5.

4-day weeks don’t slow us down! We have still managed to fit so much learning in to the shorter week and just as much fun. Everyone is working extremely hard and producing some fantastic outcomes all round, as a result. We have seen some impressive publishing of books which have been shared and enjoyed with peers. There has been lots of creativity across the various art projects and some very skilled sculptors in the making. There is a real buzz around the school as the children enjoy the fruits of their labour - it’s wonderful to see and makes us very proud! Happy 100th birthday to Sir David Attenborough 🎈 Happy weekend all ♥️

This week has been another wonderful reminder of what can be achieved through hard work, determination and a positive mindset 💪🏻 I have been incredibly proud of the quality of writing across the school. From thoughtful ideas to carefully crafted sentences, the progress children are making is clear to see. It is a joy to see them taking pride in their work and striving to improve. ☺️ Alongside this, we have celebrated some truly lovely achievements—both in and out of the classroom. Whether big or small, each success reflects the effort, commitment and resilience our children are showing every day. What has stood out most this week is the determination across the school. Children are challenging themselves, persevering when things feel difficult, and showing real resilience in their learning. These are the qualities that will support them not just in school, but throughout their lives. 🙌🏼 Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I hope you have a wonderful bank holiday weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday ☀️ Mrs Campbell and The OVPA Team 💙

It has been a joyful week across the school, with children embracing every opportunity to learn, explore and grow. Spending time outdoors has been a real highlight. Our children have been busy observing and exploring living creatures, showing curiosity, care and a real sense of wonder about the natural world around them. These moments of discovery are so important in helping children develop both their knowledge and their appreciation of the environment. In classrooms, pupils have been inspired by the work of different artists, responding thoughtfully and creatively. It has been wonderful to see such focus, pride and imagination in their work, alongside a continued determination to work hard and do their very best. In PE, athletics has been in full swing, with children developing their skills, resilience and teamwork. There has been great encouragement shown for one another, and a real sense of achievement as pupils challenge themselves. Our chess team were fabulous in Round 2 of the county chess competition against St Andrews, Sandown and Wadhurst schools. A competitive 2 hours of non-stop chess requiring plenty of concentration and resilience. Well done everyone! Next up is the county finals day at Ardingly College in June. Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It has been a week full of effort, enthusiasm and success. Mrs Campbell 💙

Another fantastic week races by! 🙌🏼💙 A huge well done to all our runners who took part in the large inter-school cross country competition at Sandown. The course is challenging and needs a deep level of resilience to get round. We were so impressed with everyone who took part and represented the school with such exemplary behaviour. 🏃🏽♂️ 🏃🏼♀️ Every year, we teach our Year 6 pupils how to use the train for travel. The train safety workshop involves a trip to Eastbourne Station, learning how to use transport safely. The children were a credit to the school and gained much more confidence around taking the train. 🚂 To celebrate Science Week, our keen scientists enjoyed investigating and learning new facts. Many of the children took part in an online science lesson and loved the challenges presented 🧪 🧫 The sun is shining today so we hope everyone has the opportunity to get outside and enjoy it ☀️ Happy Mother’s Day to all our Mums and those who are Mother-figures and Carers in our school community 🌺 🩷

The reading gap Approx one in four pupils move to secondary school without having met the expected standard in the key stage 2 national reading test. This holds many of them back in secondary school, both in their English lessons and more widely across the curriculum. /1— @MaryMyatt Aug 5, 2025
