In-Year Admissions
An in-year admission is defined as the admission of a pupil to a school which takes place outside the normal entry times. This includes pupils changing schools, pupils coming from a different country or from other parts of the UK, pupils returning to a school from living elsewhere or those who have not been in school. You can ask for your child to change schools at any stage in your child’s education.
Application process
Your application will be shared with your preferred school(s) so they can check if they have a place for your child. You will be asked to provide the name of your child’s current school or the school he or she last attended. If you can’t find the details of that school, skip to the next part of the application by leaving the field set to ‘Select current school’.
Starting school - summer-born children
If your child was born between 1 April to 31 August 2021, you may decide that you do not want them to start school until September 2026, when they reach statutory school age. In such circumstances, your child would normally be admitted to Year 1 and would miss the Reception year.
However, if you wish your summer born child to be admitted to Reception instead of Year 1 when they reach statutory school age in September 2026 (so they would be educated out of their chronological year group) you may complete our form for delayed admission to Reception for summer born children to request this. You should complete it at the same time as applying for a school place for September 2025 to ensure your child does not miss out on a place in Reception if the request is refused.

Considering making a school appeal
All other appeals known as ‘in-year’ admissions will be heard within 30 school working days of submitting the request.
Your appeal request should state your reasons for your request and any additional information/documentation/appendices should be submitted five days before the Hearing to allow time for it to be copied and distributed to all the interested parties. At least 10 working days before your appeal, unless you choose to waive this right, you will be sent detailed information regarding the process and also the date and names of the independent panel members who will hear the appeal.
The school is unable to guarantee that any original work/evidence/folders, submitted as part of the appeal, will be returned. Appellants may wish to submit copies in advance and then take important original documents verifying evidence to the appeal.
